The University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the New Orleans community are mourning the loss of Haili Gabrielle Duncan, a 25-year-old mechanical engineering major who passed away on November 24.
Known for her vibrant spirit, kindness, and determination, Haili left a lasting mark on everyone she encountered at the University and beyond. In recognition of her contributions, the University will lower its flag on Saturday in her honor, a testament to her meaningful impact on campus life.
Haili was an active and engaged member of the University community. She served as the event planning chair for the campus chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers, organizing events that inspired and connected her peers.
She was also a dedicated member of the Black Student Union, where she promoted inclusivity, empowerment, and collaboration. Her leadership and dedication were always accompanied by her signature warmth, generosity, and joy-filled personality.
Friends, classmates, faculty, and staff remember Haili for her unwavering commitment to learning, her bright and approachable demeanor, and the genuine care she showed toward others.
She had a unique ability to inspire those around her, motivating her peers to strive for excellence while also encouraging them to lift each other up. Haili’s legacy of kindness, dedication, and joy will continue to resonate throughout the University community.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 7300 Crowder Blvd., New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Family, friends, and all who were touched by Haili’s life are invited to gather, share memories, and honor the remarkable young woman she was.
